Porotta is layered flaky flat bread that is popular across the whole of south India.

Specified quantity of all purpose flour or wheat flour, egg and other ingredients are mixed gently to prepare soft dough. The dough is covered with wet cloth and left aside for some hours. The raised dough is then kneaded once again to make it soft. Small balls from the dough are rolled out and made pleats to get the layering. The pleated rounds are again rolled out as and then grilled on a tava or a griddle.

Porotta tastes best when it is served hot.
